2020 Denver Water Law Review Symposium

April 17, 2020

Converging Perspectives: Sustainable Solutions for a Changing Climate and Growing Population

All-Day Conference

Friday, April 17, 2020

8:30 a.m. – 6:00 p.m.University of Denver Sturm College of Law

As the climate is changing and the population is growing, water quantity and quality are under threat. Stakeholders have different perspectives about how to manage our water in order to meet their own needs as well as sustain our clean water supply for years to come. The 2020 Water Law Review Symposium will discuss how water law and policy can be created and implemented to ensure all people have a meaningful contribution to the decision-making process regarding where water is sourced from, how it is allocated, and how it is used, while maintaining a healthy ecosystem in the process. Throughout the 2020 Symposium, we aim to bring different perspectives together to discuss sustainable water management practices so that everyone can benefit from this critical resource while protecting ecosystems.

Each of the five panels of the 2020 Symposium will focus on a different aspect of water use and allocation, bringing together different stakeholders to discuss how best to benefit everyone. The panelists were intentionally chosen as they have different roles within water law and different perspectives on water law. We hope for a robust exchange of ideas with the intention of finding creative solutions, best practices, and ways to move forward. The facilitators will use their expertise to build out our themes and create frameworks, intentions, and goals for their panels. We hope that facilitators will take the time to coordinate with their panelists beforehand in order to best discuss these issues. This collaboration will achieve the Symposium’s goal of ensuring each Symposium attendee walks away with a few action items that facilitate sustainable water management practices with a growing population and changing climate.
