Adapting Your Stream Restoration Project to Climate Change

October 27, 2020 @ 11:00 am - 12:00 pm

Hosted by RiversEdge West

Climate change is real, occurring rapidly, and has to be taken into account when developing stream restoration. As the second part of this two-part webinar series on stream restoration, Mark Briggs (Riparian Coordinator, RiversEdge West) will discuss climate change issues and strategies that stream practitioners can use to improve the likelihood of restoration success in the context of a rapidly changing climate.

The main themes that will be discussed include:
Introductions to chapter authors who come from a diversity of backgrounds in Australia, Mexico and U.S.
Why is it important (even for small-scale stream restoration projects) to consider the consequences of climate change?
What are the likely impacts of climate change on stream hydrology and what potential impacts of those changes on stream restoration?
What are some of the main considerations in developing a climate-adapted restoration project and who or what entities can help?
Getting to know climate basics?
Understanding our changing climate – What organizations, institutions, and agencies can help us understand the consequences of climate change in the watershed where we are working?
Strategies for applying large-scale climate information to the sub-basin scale?
Assessing vulnerability and climate adaptation
Walking it through: Main steps in developing a climate-adapted stream restoration response
