​The high-energy Summer Conference is packed with great topical content. It’s a don’t miss event for those who wish to stay informed about water issues in Colorado while engaging in numerous professional development activities.

In 2018, the USDA, Western Governors Association, and the National Association of State Foresters outlined plans to work more closely with States to identify landscape-scale priorities for targeted forest treatments – Shared Stewardship.  The USFS and the State developed a memorandum of understanding the following year to prioritize decisions in Colorado.  We will learn about how Shared Stewardship works now and in the near future in Colorado.

​Colorado has a Wildly Important Goal (WIG) to develop 25 new forest management projects to enhance community wildfire risk reduction planning. We will learn about the status of this WIG.

Last year, the Colorado Legislature passed Senate Bill 21-240, also known as Wildfire Ready Watersheds. The legislation directed $30 million to CWCB to assess the susceptibility of Colorado’s water resources, communities, and critical infrastructure to post-wildfire impacts and advance a framework for communities to plan and implement mitigation strategies to minimize these impacts – before wildfires occur. The CWCB may expend up to $500,000 by the end of the year for a statewide watershed analysis to investigate susceptibility of life, safety, infrastructure and water supplies to wildfire impacts. We will also learn about the status of this work.
