Ogallala Aquifer Virtual Summit

February 24, 2021 - February 25, 2021

Water management leaders and thinkers will be coming together from 8 region Ogallala states, to discuss their work aimed at critical water-related issues at the Ogallala Aquifer Virtual Summit.

The event (hosted by the Ogallala Water Coordinated Agriculture Project(OWCAP)) is centered around live workshops that will engage producers, water district and city managers, technology and commodity group representatives, state and federal agency staff, students, and others. There will also be pre-recorded panel sessions with live Q&A, and keynote speeches from the Director of the Ogallala Aquifer Program John Tracy, and USGS Hydrologist Natalie Houston.

The mission of this summit is to address tough questions including:

1) What on-farm, district, or state-level decisions and policies could support shifts in water management to ensure that future generations will be able to continue to farm and live in the Ogallala region?

2) What has to happen to ensure that rural communities remain vital in areas where the aquifer’s depletion or depth means that irrigated agriculture will no longer be able to serve as much of an economic backbone in coming years or decades?
