Recent Scientific Advances for the International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration

November 15, 2022 @ 6:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Tuesday, November 15 | 6:00-7:00 pm | Old Town Library

Dr. Ted Scambos will report on how field work, both offshore and onshore at Thwaites Glacier, has shed new light on ocean conditions and update attendees on the recent history of the massive ice outlet. The talk will review the progress of The International Thwaites Glacier Collaboration (ITGC), highlight recent field work and results, and discuss the future field and publication plans.

The Thwaites Glacier is one of Antarctica’s most unstable glaciers. It is roughly the same size as Florida or Britain, and the amount of ice flowing out of this 120-kilometer-wide region has nearly doubled over the past 30 years.
