Grady O’Brien lead a study of salinity along the South Platte. What does the show and what do farmers and ranchers need to know.

About this Event

Grady O’Brien, a hydrologist based in Fort Collins, examined decades of historical information and conducted field testing to better understand if the South Platte has gotten saltier over time, identify seasonal variations, and uncover potential sources of increased salt.

Salinity is not a new problem, but it is one that we can better understand so farmers and ranchers can better understand any possible trends in salinity. If there are increasing problems with salinity in the South Platte, we can better prepare and mitigate those problems with good data on what the causes and impacts of the issue.
